• How a Thermocouple Works A thermocouple is a sensor ***d to measure temperature in a variety of different processes, and consists of two different metal wirelegs joined at the ***s to form two contacts. Thermal contacts (temperature measurement contacts) are connected to the body to be measured. Cold contacts (reference contacts) are connected to bodies of known temperature. When a temperature measuring contact is placed on a heat source, a voltage difference or potential difference occurs between the contact and the reference contact. This voltage is converted to a temperature measurement using the thermocouple reference table. This process is also known as the Seebeck effect.

• Weld exposed contacts are where the thermocouple wires are welded together and not covered by an external sheath. Both ***s of this wire are inserted directly into the process. This means that the thermocouple has a high sensitivity and a short response time. Weld tip exposed contacts are susceptible to corrosion, so it is recomm***ed to measure the temperature of non-corrosive flowing or stationary gas.
